Long Cavalier lead ended by late 13-point 'Pack run

After leading throughout the second half of the matchup with N.C. State, Virginia lost the lead with 48 seconds left and was eventually denied the road win 62-56 last night.

The Wolfpack's Kendra Bell gave N.C. State its eventually game-winning lead with 48 seconds left and N.C. State continued to pull ahead until the buzzer.

After a tight first half, Virginia went into the break with a substantial ten-point advantage. They maintained this advantage almost throughout the whole period, but a 13-0 Wolfpack run towards the finish line put N.C. State on top in the end.

The Cavaliers remained scoreless for the last three minutes and 39 seconds of the contest.

Virginia outrebounded its conference rival, usually a telling statistic for the Cavaliers, but advantage off the boards wasn't enough to compensate for the turnovers N.C. State capitalized on for 25 points.

Last year Virginia and N.C. State went one for one with each team taking a win on the road. Last night's game is the only regular scheduled matchup between the Cavaliers and the Wolfpack.

The loss ended a three-game winning streak for Virginia and brought its record to 16-6, 5-3 ACC. The Wolfpack boasts a near-identical record of 16-5, 5-3 ACC. Virginia will next take on North Carolina in Charlottesville on Monday night.
