Each week, the Cavalier Daily asks a student 25 questions and allows him or her to eliminate five of them. This week's interviewee is second-year College student Liza Shepeleva, a math and international business and finance double major. Shepeleva is "from the good old mother Russia, exactly Siberia, where we do not have polar bears roaming the streets and it does get pretty hot in the summer."
Q: What is your favorite tree?
A: Birch Tree, it's a typical countryside tree in Russia. Reminds me of home -- plus, there is a sense of innocence about it.
Q: If you could describe today in one word, what would it be?
A: Beautiful. A tad raining, though.
Q: When you were little, did you prefer coloring with markers or crayons?
A: Crayons. Markers kept on breaking, tips would press into markers too easily. Plus, I learned my lesson of "Crayons Over Markers" after my mom discovered a bright blue stain on the new carpet.
Q: Favorite kind of bagel?
A: A toasted Sesame Bagel with tons of cream cheese ... more like cream cheese with a sesame bagel.
Q: What action, if any, should the United States take in Darfur, Sudan?
A: Provide more medical assistance, as well as set up more aid shelters throughout the region.
Q: What was the stupidest thing you did last week?
A: Last week was exceptional -- I did something each day. I think the highlight was staring at the computer screen for at least 15 minutes, wondering why I cant see anything before realizing I don't have my glasses on-- which I have been wearing for the past two years.
Q: How long do you spend on the facebook every week?
A: Oh, come on... couple hours but that thing is addicting, and I do have a life!
Q: Would you endure one more month of snow and cold if we were guaranteed four straight months of springtime weather afterwards?
A: I'm from Siberia, snow is my realm! So bring on the cold and a lot of snow! Except, it better be springtime weather without "monsoon" rains, which are typical here.
Q: What is your least favorite place in the world?
A: Ambulances.
Q: What is your opinion in the case of Terry Schiavo?
A: They should not starve her to death, but should let her pass away. I think she has been tortured enough. She deserves to find her peace.
Q: Do you prefer sunrise or sunset?
A: Sunset -- it is serene and beautiful.
Q: Do you have a collection of anything?
A: Old coins and a crazy amount of teddy bears of every size and color.
Q: Laptop or desktop?
A: Desktop... whoop whoop.
Q: When was the last time you won an argument?
A: What's considered winning an argument? If it's settling an issue, then neither side wins, but finds a compromise. If it's the victory feeling, I had one of those over the Spring Break, when I was helping my brother choose a tie for his suit. Let's just say, my tie won.
Q: What was the first CD that you owned as a kid?
A: Britney Spears. My brother gave it to me for my birthday.
Q: Do you underline, highlight or fall asleep when you read?
A: Neither, I take notes. Takes forever, though.
Q: If you could have any car in the world, what would it be?
A: Dodge Viper SRT10, race yellow, preferably with chrome rims and a prepaid insurance.
Q: What do you wish you weren't afraid of?
A: Disappointing others.
Q: When you have a headache, do you take medicine or ride it out?
A: Depends what I need to do. If it's physical work, I'll ride it out. If it's studying, Advil is my friend.
Q: What was the most important invention of the twentieth century?
A: Can't pick one. Probably all of computer technologies. I wonder what life would be like if computers weren't invented -- we depend on them for much.
The Verdict: Liza speaks with a Russian accent, which makes her de facto cooler than you. The end.
