A summer in the city

When I decided to stay in Charlottesville this summer, it was a simple financial decision. I need a job, and the market for summer employment is not so hot in my hometown. So, I've found a sublet and begun the job search, but one mystery of the summer is yet to be solved -- what am I going to do for fun?

For my fellow University students who have also elected to experience summer in C'ville, have no fear. While UPC may not be hosting their usual variety of events, the wider community has plenty to offer.

For starters, the music scene does not take a summer break. Post-finals, check out Tea Leaf Green at Starr Hill May 19 or X Porn StarsMay 27. If you're busy recovering from finals week (or the celebration afterwards), then check out William Walter's Acoustic Trio later in the summer June 10 and 25.

The Gravity Lounge will also host several musical events throughout the summer. May 19, the Hamiltons will visit the venue, followed by the Keel Brothers and Willy Porter May 20. June 5, University Jazz Ensemble Director John D'earth will perform as part of the Steve Kessler Quartet. Other events in June at the Gravity Lounge include:

disappear fear - June 10

Melanie - June 11

Leon Russell - June 24

The Lascivious Biddies - June 26

Randy Kohrs - July 31

Audie Blaylock and Redline
