South Carolina basketball coach dispels rumors about talks with Littlepage

University of South Carolina head basketball coach Dave Odom released a statement Monday in which he denied rumors that he and Virginia athletic director Craig Littlepage were discussing the possibility of Odom being hired to fill Virginia's head coaching vacancy.

"Upon arriving in St. Louis at the Final Four on Saturday morning, I received a call from Craig asking if I would talk with him about my impressions of the University of Virginia and its basketball program, about the ACC as a league and the landscape of college basketball nationally," the statement read. "There was absolutely no discussion about my potential interest in the head coaching position at University of Virginia."

Littlepage and Odom both served as assistant coaches at Virginia under Terry Holland in the 1980s. Odom came to Virginia in 1982 and worked on the Holland's staff for seven years before leaving to become the head coach at Wake Forest in 1989.
