Virginia cross country senior Soeren Lindner was named the men's ACC runner of the week, as announced by the ACC office Sept. 12. Lindner finished second overall at the Lou Onesty Invitational Sept. 10, leading Virginia to the team title as the Cavaliers opened up their 2005 season with the meet at Panorama Farms. Lindner ran 24:31.46 en route to the runner-up finish and was the leader in a Virginia pack that finished 2-3-4-7.This is the first conference honor for Lindner, who advanced to the NCAA National Championships in 2004 as an individual. The Cavaliers just missed qualifying.
The Cavaliers continue their 2005 season at the Great American XC Festival Sept. 24 in Cary, N.C.
Virginia Men's Golf team tied for fourth place with 569 at Tournament of Champions in Tennessee after first day
The Virginia men's golf team was tied for fourth after the first day of the Tournament of Champions Sept. 12. Tennessee leads the scoring with 546 (-22), while Alabama will start the second day at a distant second with a 564 (-4). The Cavaliers shot 289 in the first round and 280 in the second round for an overall 569 in the first day.
Freshman Conrad Von Borsig leads the Cavaliers, tied for ninth with a three-under 139. Senior Brad Tilley fired a one-under 141 to tie for 13th place. Senior Carter Henderson shot a 144 (+2) to tie for 27th, while freshman Daniel Kefale carded a 145 (+3) to tie for 33rd. Sophomore Daniel McGurk rounded out Virginia scoring card with a 135 (+14).
