Virginia's Devarrman falls in USTA Pro Classic

By advancing to the quarterfinal round of the Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center USTA Pro Classic, Virginia men's tennis player Somdev Devvarman proved he belongs on the Futures Tour. Devvarman's run ended Friday, however, at the hands of Honia Tecau. Tecau, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, won the match in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

While Devarrman is currently ranked No. 12 in the ITA, Tecau already boasts a singles tournament win on the Futures Circuit in addition to being ranked No. 361 in the world.

Devvarman will continue to compete on the Futures Tour to gain experience at the professional level. Though college players may not accept prize money, Devarrman will use the Futures Tour to catapult his professional career.
