From dragons to Dave's, the myths and facts of this year

February is my favorite month of the year. Not December, with its holiday spirit, or any of the spring and summer months where we actually see the sun. As a sports month, February is usually defined by what it doesn't have -- namely football and baseball. It's the only month without one or the other (March essentially has baseball, as anyone who participates in a fantasy baseball league can vouch for). But, lacking these two sports is a blessing in disguise. As sports fans, we get an entire month off from ESPN, CNNSI, FSN and all the other outlets desperate to tell us how to judge our athletes. Believe me; I know Tony Reali is still taking 23-and-a-half hour breaks every weekday. I know that Gene Wojciechowski is still pumping out columns.

But the great thing about February is that we don't have to read them and listen to them. We don't have to stay updated and informed on all the latest sensational opinions because nothing is going on. There's nothing worth talking about -- if you don't believe me and have a few spare hours, try plowing through the Sports Guy's interview with David Stern.

February affords us a chance to take a little break from the constant bombardment that we endure during all the other months. You might call it "dull" or "boring," but I call it "soothing" and "rejuvenating."

So, enjoy the Road to the Final Four, and enjoy these facts and myths.

Myth: After this semester, half of our associate editors are going to bolt for greener pastures at Temple University.

Fact: Our highlighters always match our ties.

Myth: We'll be sponsoring a "Dave Leitao foot-stomp contest" to see who can best replicate the stomp that strikes fear into the heart of refs (and earns DL technical fouls).

Fact: Virginia native Billy Wagner hung around Cavalier baseball practices this spring. We should all look forward to some Wagner-Zimmerman showdowns this year.

Myth: Shani Davis is a proud graduate of the School of Throwing Your Teammates Under the Bus. Peyton Manning graduated earlier this year.

Fact: Barry Bonds is such a veteran that he has now begun pre-empting the media and is already complaining about "all the crap going on."

Fact: James Brown is moving to CBS to host the NFL Today, and Greg Gumbel is moving to the broadcast booth.

Myth: The producers of FOX's Pregame Show are looking into hiring The OC's Adam Brody, who plays Seth Cohen, because he's "so funny."

Myth: We already have the headline ready for when Tunji springs for 81 points.

Fact: Think Team Canada is wishing they had Sidney Crosby now?

Myth: Some point soon, I am going to move to LA, get married, start working on a late-night talk show, and have a kid -- all while my columns get progressively worse as a consequence.

Fact: The term "tour de force" simply isn't used enough in everyday speech.

Myth: We've been lobbying hard to convince the athletic department to start scheduling men's and women's golf matches in Hawaii
