It was announced last night that the Virginia women's basketball team did not receive a bid to the 2006 NCAA Tournament and will be likely receive an NIT bid.In addition to conference champion North Carolina, six ACC teams accepted bids on Monday. Among those teams is Boston College, a team Virginia defeated in the first round of the ACC tournament last Thursday. The Cavaliers upset the Eagles 57-54 to advance to a second round contest against No. 1 North Carolina. The Tar Heels dispatched the Cavaliers for the third time this season, 82-56, on their way to the ACC Championship and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.The loss against the Tar Heels ended a five-game winning streak for Virginia that had built up hopes of a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.After opening the season with a blistering 12-1 start, Virginia faltered in conference play. The Cavaliers lost three of their first four conference games on their way to a 5-9 conference record. Virginia will face St. Joseph's Saturday March 18th at U-Hall in the first round of the NIT Tournament.--
