Mikalauskas playing for Lithuania in Global Games Sophomore forward Laurynas Mikalauskas (pictured at right) traveled to Dallas this week to participate in the 2006 Global Games, hosted by Southern Methodist University. The tournament includes teams from Africa, Argentina, Lithuania, Puerto Rico, Russia, Serbia, Ukraine and the United States. Tuesday, Lithuania defeated Ukraine 66-62.

Last season, Mikalauskas averaged 6.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game for the Cavaliers.

Long chosen for Hendricks Watch List

Junior defensive end Chris Long was chosen Monday to the 2006 Hendricks Watch List. The Hendricks award is given annually at the end of the season to the nation's best defensive end.

Long started all 12 games last season and recorded 46 tackles and two sacks.

Wigger wins WEGA Championship

Last Thursday, senior Leah Wigger won the 2006 Womens' Eastern Golf Association Championship at the Gulph Mills Golf Club in Pennsylvania. She shot an 8-under 211 for the three day tournament. That score set an all-time tournament record.

Two other Cavaliers -- Sally Shonk and Kristen Simpson -- also participated in the tournament. Shonk finished 9th overall at 16-over while Simpson finished 40th at 35-over.

Men's soccer schedule released

Virginia men's soccer coach George Gelnovatch announced the 2006 soccer schedule Monday. Virginia will play 17 regular season games, 13 of which will be within the comforts of Klockner Stadium.

The Cavaliers will open the regular season by hosting the Virginia Soccer Classic Aug 25-27. Out-of-conference opponents on the docket include Davidson, UC-Santa Barbara, George Mason, UCLA, St. Francis, West Virginia, American, Liberty and Longwood. Virginia's four conference home games will be against Boston College, Clemson, Maryland and Wake Forest while the Cavaliers will have to travel to face N.C. State, North Carolina, Duke and Virginia Tech. Virginia has no out-of-conference road games scheduled.

The Cavaliers finished the 2005 season 12-5-3 and were ranked as high as No. 10 in the national polls.
