Women's tennis nets No. 1 recruiting class

According to a poll released last Friday by tennisrecruiting.net, Virginia's 2006 women's tennis recruiting class is the best in the nation. The Cavaliers received six of nine first-place votes from the panel that compiled the poll.

The 2006 class is the first assembled by coach Mark Guilbeau. In his first season at Virginia this spring, Guilbeau won the 2006 ACC Coach of the Year award.

The strength of Virginia's recruiting class can be found in Kristen McVitty and Jennifer Stevens. McVitty finished last year as the No. 1 ranked player in the USTA Girls 18s national rankings. Stevens has won seven national junior titles.

Rounding out the recruiting class are two five-star recruits -- Brintney Larson and Jessica Preeg -- and four-star recruit Austin Hansen.
