Handicapping the best college football matchups in week two

So Facebook finally caught up to the rest of the internet and installed a live feed for all activities. Now everyone knows all the parties that their friends are going to -- but that they weren't actually invited to themselves (awkward). And all of your friends will also know you just took the Trans-Siberian Orchestra off your My Music section, prompting questions as to why it was there in the first place and why you felt it necessary to take it off now of all times.

But while everyone was digesting the ramifications of this addition (talk about doing Facebook stalkers' jobs for them) we were drawing one day closer to week two of college football.

And if you're headed to Vegas for a three-day bender or just happen to be in a fantasy pick'em league, here are some games to keep an eye on this weekend.

Oklahoma -17 vs. Washington

A porous Washington defense got torched last week by San Jose State for 323 passing yards and three touchdowns in the air. The Huskies hung on 35-29, but if perennial bottom-feeder SJSU is giving you trouble at home, what the heck is going to happen when you go on the road to Oklahoma? No one's saying OU's air attack is prolific -- RB Adrian Peterson is their strength -- but you've gotta love the Sooners at minus-17 in Memorial Stadium. Break out the Tyrone "Losingham" jokes!

Florida State -30 vs. Troy

It's basically just a question of whether or not the Seminoles can score 30 points, because there's no way Troy is scoring in this one. The Trojans blanked D-I AA Alabama State 38-0 over the weekend, but that's not a particularly impressive feat.

Florida State's offense looked bad (although good by comparison thanks to Kyle Wright and company), but that means they know everything they have to fix before Troy rolls into town. So if you trust Weatherford and Booker to get their acts together, then this should be a pretty comfortable homecoming for the 'Noles.

Notre Dame -8 vs. Penn State

This line opened with the Irish as fifteen-point favorites, so it's dropped a full touchdown since the beginning of August. It also seems more reasonable now too -- 15 was way too high -- but after last week's scare on the road, Notre Dame is ready to rock. The defense will have more chances to make plays against newbie Anthony Morelli. The junior saw little pressure from Akron last week in his first career start.

And after looking rather cautious last week against the Yellow Jackets, QB Brady Quinn and coach Charlie Weis are likely to open things up a bit Saturday.

By the way, four lower-level seats on the 40-yard line? A cool $3,800. In case you've got some money to burn.

LSU -15 vs. Arizona

Let's see, how did the Pac-10 fare last week against the SEC? Well, you can probably still hear the fans in Knoxville singing "Ole Rocky Top." LSU is already rolling after a 45-3 tuneup against UL-Lafayette last week. Arizona, meanwhile, was Virginia-esque in its rushing attack, piling up only 67 yards against BYU.

In Arizona's defense, this looked like your typical first week game -- full of penalties and players out-of-rhythm -- but time is running out to prepare for a trip to the Bayou. If you think LSU can win this thing by even a 27-10 margin (which seems eminently achievable), then you know who to pick.

North Carolina +12 vs. Virginia Tech

Uhhh...what? The same Tar Heel team that lost to Rutgers is going to cover against the Hokies? Really? Well, while it's hardly John Anthony's Lock of the Decade, this is your best underdog bet this weekend. Studies have shown that home dogs are consistently good bets, and this one could be a winner.

UNC couldn't stop Rutgers' admittedly powerful rushing attack, which is why it works in their favor that Virginia Tech is still figuring out its own running game. And with such an easy schedule to open the season for the Hokies (Northeastern, UNC, Duke, Cincinnati), it's not out of the question the young team will lose focus at some point.

UNC needs an upset to get back into the bowl hunt, and they should be hungry after last week's loss. If UNC covers, it's going to be an ugly game, so take the points and maybe the under when it comes out.
