Two Cavaliers named to Michigan/Pepsi Challenge's All-Tournament team

Last weekend, the Virginia volleyball team (7-2) finished 2-1 at the Michigan/Pepsi Challenge, at Cliff Kean Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich. The two victories were good enough for a second-place finish, and two Virginia players received All-Tournament Honors. Junior Sarah Kirkwood won this honor for the second time this season and junior Katie Oakes was named to her third consecutive All-Tournament team. In 10 games against Pacific, Michigan and Marquette, Kirkwood dominated from the outside hitter position, leading Virginia with 61 points, 51 kills, 49 digs and seven service aces. Meanwhile, Oakes carried the defense with 13 blocks in the victories against Pacific and Marquette, and recorded 31 kills for the tournament.

Virginia's lead goal scorer named ACC Player of the week

Sophomore forward Yannick Reyering was named ACC Men's Soccer Player of the Week yesterday. Reyering has helped to propel the Cavaliers to a 5-0 start and the No. 2 spot in the men's college soccer rankings this season. This past week alone Reyering notched the lone goal in the 1-0 win against then-sixth-ranked UCLA, and followed that performance with both goals in the 2-1 victory against ACC-rival North Carolina State.

Reyering now leads the team with four goals on the year, three of which were game winners, and is tied for fifth place on the ACC scoring list.
