By my estimation autumn is officially here. It seems that 80-degree days are done until spring, although this is Virginia so who can say. Regardless, you can finally bust out your fall boots, jackets and sweaters without looking weird. Here are the fall trends that I have gleaned from hours of intense research looking through fashion magazines. Enjoy:
Shoes
There are a ton of cute shoes out this season, with a special emphasis on ballet slippers, boots and wedges. A nice bonus are the fun fabrics and textures they come in, such as tweed, lace and even glitter. Personally, I am going to run out and buy those sparkly red Dorothy slippers that I never got as a child, although there are also some really hot black lace stilettos out there. Pick your poison.
Accessories
Newsboy hats are in, once again. I like some of the new styles, but I have to warn you that if the rest of your outfit is too hip, you might look like Lindsay Lohan. Also, somewhat miraculously, leggings are still in style. I give them three months, tops, so if you have some wear the little suckers out.
Makeup
An interesting aspect of makeup these days is something you wouldn't expect: dirt. No, not the FX show that has terrible commercials during Nip/Tuck, but the stuff on the ground. Specifically, minerals are popping up in foundation and other powdered makeup everywhere. Bare Escentuals has always been known for its Bare Minerals foundation, but now other brands like Neutrogena are getting in on the trend. The great thing about them is that the minerals are good for sensitive skin and are actually supposed to make your skin look better over time. I'm starting to become a believer after a minor shopping trip this weekend, so you might want to check them out.
Diets
OK, hold up. I honestly am not a fan of diets, especially when people mention theirs as I am digging into my daily lunch of Cocoa Puffs. (By the way, Kashi frozen meals = not half as good as the cereal). However, lately there has been a lot of talk about diets that are not supposed to make you lose the Freshman 15. Instead, through some miraculous vitamins or something that I have never really understood, they promise to make you more beautiful, with shinier hair, clearer skin, bigger boobs, etc. Evelyn Lauder, of the Estée Lauder company/family has a new cookbook out called "In Great Taste," which focuses on the philosophy of healthy insides being reflected on the outside. Lately, I have also noticed tips in magazines such as dairy to make your teeth whiter and bright vegetables for better-looking skin. I am far too lazy to actually try this stuff, but if anyone does please let me know what happens.
Jackets
Blazers are still very popular this season. Plaid, velvet, tweed, you name it -- are all very versatile over jeans or with a skirt or cords. I think the tweed blazers with the popped collars at J.Crew might have actually been designed with Wahoos in mind.
And don't forget coats with toggles. Toggles! I heart toggles. I really couldn't tell you why, maybe it is something Freudian that I can't even imagine, but on a winter coat they really are a great detail. In case you don't know, a toggle is a closure on the front of the coat that works much like a button, except it is a lot bigger and usually made of brown wood. It is also generally in the shape of a rectangle, and it goes through a big loop. Does that make any sense at all? Oh well, it's not really cold enough for this kind of overcoat yet, but I bet it will be by Halloween, so Google it.
And by the way, I am now taking fashion questions because apparently I know something on the topic. Or if you just want to send me mean emails or porn, that's cool too.
