Current office/position:
Campbell. Julian Campbell, like the soup. I like progress...not Progresso.
What are the responsibilities of the position you are seeking, and why are you qualified to fulfill those responsibilities?
I transferred to U.Va. this year, and I have taken time to evaluate what could be improved for those of us in the College. I do understand what the CLAS officers traditionally concern themselves with. Yet, with 13,000 students in the College, surely we can affect much, much more than we have been bothering with. So before anyone calls my platforms unrelated to the College and tangential, I'll say that my platforms are what are needed for a genuinely interesting direction. I'm into being dynamic, not static.
If elected, what is the most pressing issue that you could realistically address, and how would you do so?
This poor advising program we so frequently complain about in the College must stop, and here's how to stop it: I propose two paper forms be available to all CLAS students. The first is for the immediate evaluation of an adviser at the conclusion of a meeting, and the second for all future complaints/recommendations/feedback.
No more Social Security numbers as student ID numbers. Use computer IDs instead. Easy. How do we induce this change? THERE ARE 13,000 OF US. Taking up a petition of students, in conjunction with a campaign from concerned parents (the ones financing this school), and U.Va. will have to heed us.
What positive contributions have you made to the University community?
This is the first positive contribution I am able to make. I may only be a new student, but I know we can utilize our numbers for change. I am not the former VP of anything, nor the current secretary of anything. But I am a student with ideas and a plan. That is the core of leadership.

Current office/position: Treasurer, Arts and Sciences Council
What are the responsibilities of the position you are seeking, and why are you qualified to fulfill those responsibilities?
As stated in the ASC Constitution, the president of the College serves as the official representative of the Council and the CLAS student body to the CLAS administration and community. I am qualified to serve as president due to my experience and understanding of Council. As a second-year I served on Council as second-year chair, and I am currently serving as ASC treasurer. During the past two years I have witnessed Council's faults and development. As treasurer I carry great responsibility as I am responsible for all finances, which are derived from student activity fees. Therefore I have witnessed first-hand the inefficiencies, which I hope to eliminate next year as ASC president. Finally, I will ensure that the student activity fees come back to the students through several different mediums so that their money is not wasted.
If elected, what is the most pressing issue that you could realistically address, and how would you do so?
I believe that it is imperative for the Executive Council to conduct a review of all standing programs before next school year commences. This overhaul will allow the Council to determine which programs are efficient and relevant, and which are outdated and superfluous. Such programs as co-sponsorships and department grants are under-utilized by the student body due to a failure by the ASC to properly inform students. I will make certain that students are aware of the monetary resources available for myriad programs. This will foster a stronger College community and stronger relationships among students, faculty, and alumni.
What positive contributions have you made to the University community?
As treasurer for the College, I am in the process of restructuring budgeting and financial structures. As it is the students who are responsible for the ASC's endowment, I believe that it is the students who should benefit from ASC expenditures.
I also serve on the Student Council Appropriations Committee to ensure that all CIO's are justly funded. I have served in several other positions such as First-Year Blood Drive co-chair. I have continued to volunteer my time to the U.Va. community since first-year, and hope to be able to further contribute to the University as your ASC President.

Current office/position: Vice President of the Arts & Sciences Council, student representative on the Search Committee for the new dean of the College and on the Dean's Report Task Force
What are the responsibilities of the position you are seeking, and why are you qualified to fulfill those responsibilities?
The office of the president of the Arts & Sciences Council is a demanding one, and I am the right person for the job. The president must have a vision for the Council, must have the drive and determination to accomplish the goals set forth by the Council and must be an effective leader who views the job as one of service. He or she will act as a liaison between the greater U.Va. community, including students, faculty and staff, and the Council. I am qualified to fulfill these responsibilities because I have a great wealth of experience serving as vice president, serving as the internal Council liaison and working in a close partnership with the president on all matters pertaining to the Council.
If elected, what is the most pressing issue that you could realistically address, and how would you do so?
The most pressing issue related to the Arts & Sciences Council is awareness of our organization. First, I will address this issue by having a "What is ASC?" Campaign to make students aware of the many ways we can assist them. Second, I will create an ASC Web site that is sure to be on every student's "Favorites" list. Third, I will reach out to students by holding information sessions in dorms and academic buildings. Fourth, I will speak to the Faculty Senate to encourage utilization of our Faculty Entertainment Fund to be used for inviting students to dinner, field trips and other functions. Lastly, I will reach out to CIOs and other organizations to make them aware of our co-sponsorship processes.
What positive contributions have you made to the University community?
As vice president of the Arts & Sciences Council, I have spent much of my time serving the members of the Council as chief of staff, recruiting representatives and creating new processes for an effective and fully functioning Council. As a member of the search committee for the new dean, I am helping to shape the future of the College, as its leadership determines its direction. As president of my residence hall last year, our council put on more programs than any council in many years past. I also volunteer as a member of AMSA in our mission to raise $20,000 for a clinic in El Salvador. I am traveling to Georgia over spring break as a member of the Alternative Spring Break organization, and am actively involved in my sorority.
