Cavaliers complete successful weekend

The No. 3 Virginia men's tennis team (10-1) competed almost flawlessly at the Boyd Tinsley Courts this weekend. Friday, the team defeated the defending NCAA champion, No. 8 Pepperdine, 6-1. The Cavaliers won the doubles point and left no room for a possible Pepperdine comeback, as none of the singles matches went into the third set.

Saturday, the team kept up its momentum by crushing No. 19 Boise State 7-0. After losing the first doubles match, the Cavaliers rallied back to take the point. Virginia won the first set of every singles match and continued on to defeat Boise State.

Sophomore Nick Meros competed for the first time this season, defeating junior Brent Werbeck of Boise State 7-6(7), 6-2. No. 4 junior Somdev Devvarman rolled over two ranked opponents this weekend, No. 15 junior Andre Begemann of Pepperdine 6-3, 6-2 and No. 7 junior Luke Shields of Boise State 6-0, 5-7, 10-6. The Cavaliers will play a doubleheader Wednesday against Old Dominion and Maryland, marking the start of ACC play.
