PEOPLE CAN be very unkind. It is common late in grade school or in the middle-school years for youngsters to tease each other using condescending words or phrases tied to physical or mental real or perceived short-comings. But they have nothing on adults, who can say some of the nastiest things.
"In an emergency, your newspaper is a poor substitute to use to wipe my bottom with," one reader wrote about a newspaper I edited.
Another had a similar point of view: "You are a mediocre newspaper constantly becoming mediocre(er) (sp)
