Sophomore Yemi Ayeni broke a Virginia men's track and field record Saturday at the Wake Forest Open. His 190' 11" discus toss broke Virginia's previous record by 10 inches.
Other Cavaliers -- both from the men's and women's teams -- performed well at the meet. Senior Erin Crawford was the only competitor to complete the 400-meter hurdles in less than one minute, running at 58.83. Both Ayeni and Crawford qualified for the NCAA regional meet as a result of their performances this weekend.
In the long jump, senior Tomika Ferguson came in fifth place with a jump of 19' 2", while junior Kathryn Tershel came in seventh, jumping 18' 7.75".
In the 200-meter dash, junior Reuben Jones and freshman Brian Lee both won in their divisions.
The team will next compete Friday at the Stanford Invitational.
