Film lull before summer

Tomorrow ushers in a slew of smaller national films releases before studios bring out their summer big guns in May. Leading the pack are two supernatural thrillers, Next and The Invisible. Next casts Nick Cage as a Vegas gambler haunted both by his past and the ability to see five minutes into the future (eye-candy-worthy Jessica Biel is thrown in there somewhere). The Invisible follows a handsome disembodied teen caught in spiritual "limbo" after being attacked and left for dead. But no worries, apparently solving his own murder from beyond the pseudo-grave can resurrect him. On the non-supernatural but equally ridiculous side, Kickin it Old School inserts Jamie Kennedy as a post-coma break-dancer that must rally his "old squad" to pay for medical bills and impress a girl. Last but not necessarily least, The Condemned delivers WWE fan-favorite "Stone Cold" Steve Austin as a death row inmate thrown onto a deserted island with nine other pre-mortem convicts. The lucky ten must fight on a internet broadcast to be the "last man standing," the winner gaining his or her freedom

Early summer concerts

If you're still in town later next month recovering from finals, or if you live in Northern Virginia, then it'll be worth the time to see some great acts at the Satellite Ballroom and Starr Hill in May. On the 13 at the Satellite Ballroom, Japanese band Mono will perform with World's End Girlfriend. These two bands have just released a CD with five epic instrumental tracks, musically textured to perfection. On the 29 at the same location, indie-electronica band !!! (chk chk chk) will perform. At Starr Hill, They Might be Giants, known for the Malcolm in the Middle theme song, will perform on May 8.
