A courtyard joining the existing and future Education School buildings will be named in honor of outgoing Education School Dean David Breneman.
Construction of the courtyard will be funded by a gift of $1 million donated by Dan Meyers, chair of the Curry School of Education Foundation Board of Directors.
Deb Donnelly, executive director of the School of Education Foundation, said Meyers specifically requested that the courtyard be named in honor of Breneman.
According to Bob Pate, associate dean for administrative services at the Education School, the courtyard will connect Ruffner Hall with the future Bavaro Hall. Construction on the new building will begin in January 2008, Pate said.
Donnelly said naming the courtyard after Breneman is appropriate because he led the push for the new building.
