Volleyball to take on Boston College and Maryland

This weekend, the Virginia women's volleyball team welcomes to Charlottesville Boston College Friday and Maryland Saturday.

Against Boston College, the Cavaliers (8-6, 3-2 ACC) come in leading the all-time series, 5-0. The Eagles will be entering the match with a 8-7 overall record and 2-3 in conference play. In last weekend's matches, Boston College came out with a split record, defeating N.C. State but falling to North Carolina. The Eagles have something to prove this weekend, as they have yet to have a perfect game away from home this season, despite their league-leading stats in service aces.

Maryland's record looks better coming into the weekend's matches. The Terps are leading Virginia 33-14 in all-time head to head contests. While Maryland has a solid 10-4 overall record, the Terps are only 2-3 in ACC play. Maryland defeated both the Wolfpack and the Tar Heels in its matches last weekend. The Terps will be a tough opponent, as they lead the ACC in blocking at 3.47 blocks per game.

The Cavaliers saw split matches last weekend, with a win against Georgia Tech and a loss to Clemson, currently undefeated in the conference.

Senior Melissa Caldwell has the chance in the near future to break the program record for career digs. Currrently, Caldwell needs 217 more digs to be Virginia's all-time leader in digs.In last weekend's matches, Caldwell managed to accumulate 39 digs.

Every win counts to Virginia coach Melissa Aldrich Shelton, who is close to breaking records of her own. Currently in her 13th season at Virginia, she is nearing the 100 conference victory mark. After the win against Georgia Tech last weekend, Shelton holds 97 conference wins, needing only three to set the mark.

The Cavaliers face the Eagles Friday at 7 p.m. Saturday's match against Maryland is scheduled for 5 p.m. Both matches take place at Virginia volleyball's home, Memorial Gymnasium.
