Chris Long wins Hendricks Award

Virginia senior Chris Long was awarded the 2007 Ted Hendricks award for the best defensive end in the nation yesterday.

Chosen from among eight finalists, Long gained more than 60 percent of the vote, more than any player in the history of the award.

This season, Long tallied 14 sacks, good for first in the ACC and third in the NCAA.

Long, the third Virginia player to garner national honors in the history of the program, has received numerous accolades for his performance this season including ACC Defensive Player of the Year and being named an American Football Coaches Association First-Team All-American.
