The Inter-Fraternity Council held elections for its 2008 Executive Board last night, electing third-year College student Taylor Richardson president.
Richardson said he is "extremely excited" about his new position and will have some "big shoes to fill" in the coming year. He added that the rest of the newly elected officers are "a great group of guys to be working with."
Serving on the Board along with Richardson will be third-year College student Lansing Lee, vice president for judiciary; second-year College student David Truetzel, vice president for party patrol; third-year Commerce student Chambliss Shillinglaw, vice president for membership; third-year College student Joe O'Brien, vice president for administration; third-year Commerce student Cullen Hitt, member at large; second-year College student Andy Snyder chairman for membership intake; and third-year Commerce student Johnnie Black, secretary/treasurer.
According to outgoing IFC President Charlie Morgan, the new board members are entering their new positions with significant experience.
"I think Taylor is overly qualified to be president," Morgan said, adding that "the rest of the board is mostly returning guys who have worked well together in the past, so the dynamic of the board should be good."
Morgan noted that Truetzel is the only non-returning officer, but said "he has already proven ... that he will be an asset."
According to Richardson, his primary goal for the next year "is just ensuring that the mission of the IFC is understood by students both within and outside of the IFC," noting that he views the IFC as a "pillar for self-governance" and a way for students to "develop a sense of leadership" and accountability.
He added that he would also like to continue the IFC's tradition of service to the University and plans to increase transparency of the Governing Board and to develop "strong connections with the other Greek organizations."
According to Morgan, he feels that the IFC elected strong leaders for the upcoming year who will be capable of carrying on the board's responsibilities to "shape the overall vision for the IFC for the year" and to handle day-to-day issues.
He added that the remainder of the Governing Board will be elected next week.
"Today we got a great group of core leadership and next week we're looking to get a good group of younger, fresh faces to keep the IFC moving forward," Morgan said.
