Inter-Fraternity Council completes Governing Board

The Inter-Fraternity Council elected the remainder of its Governing Board officials last night, completing its elections for the 2008-2009 term.

Joining the Governing Board will be second-year Engineering student Matt Hanna as? chairman for housing and physical development, second-year College student Charles Gamper as? chairman for membership education, third-year Engineering student Sean Fillion as? chairman for community service and third-year College student Hal Turner as chairman for inter-Greek relations. Additionally, third-year College student Jack Barnes will serve as public relations spokesman and second-year College student Lincoln Foran will serve as chairman for faculty relations and scholarship?. Second-year College student John Carrington was elected? chairman for diversity outreach along with second-year College student Buddy Gray as? chairman for alumni relations and second-year College student Brandon Barksdale? as chairman for publications.

Third-year College student Taylor Richardson, who was elected to the position of IFC president last week, said although the newly-elected members are newcomers to the IFC, each is very active within his own fraternity chapter and various organizations around Grounds, citing specifically the Inter-Fraternity Council Judiciary Committee, the Honor Committee, the University Judiciary Committee and Sustained Dialogue.

"I would say that a common theme [with] these guys is that they aren't satisfied with the way things are now," Richardson said. "They are innovative and willing to try new things for their positions, to help the image of the Greek system [toward] non-Greeks and the Charlottesville community."

Outgoing IFC President Charlie Morgan? said the IFC attained its goal of increasing the number of fraternities represented on the board this year.

"This year we have 11 houses represented on the IFC Governing Board compared to nine houses last year," Morgan said. "That's a great step in the right direction."

Richardson expressed his confidence in the new members of the board, adding that he "expect[s] great things from this group"
