SOTL presents adaptation of the Bard's Othello
What happens when a feminist playwright tries her hand at reinventing one of William Shakespeare's masterpieces? Behold Paula Vogel's Desdemona: a Play About a Handkerchief. Sponsored by U.Va. theatre troupe Shakespeare on the Lawn, the play tells the story of Othello from his ill-fated wife's point of view. Fans of Othello may be surprised by this leading lady, who is far from the innocent, victimized Desdemona of the traditional story. The scandalous adaptation, directed by Gabrielle Laskey, will run February 21 to 23 in Maury 209.

Get ready for your old TV favorites!
For fans desperate for Desperate Housewives or in need of medical attention while mourning the lack of Grey's Anatomy, never fear -- the WGA writer's strike, which has plagued sitcom lovers for the past three months, officially ended Tuesday. While the media claims the impending Oscars is not the official reason for the strike's success, WGA is triumphant in gaining requests for payment and Internet fees. Writers now receive better overall pay and will receive a flat fee for all Internet use of their material. Watch for new episodes (probably eight to ten) before the seasons end in May. Writers are expected to return to work this week, with new episodes airing in about six weeks.

And the Grammy results are in!
Though widely derided as artistically illegitimate and culturally irrelevant, the Grammys still managed to pull in a large number of viewers. Amy Winehouse was the night's biggest winner, pulling in awards for Record of the Year (Back to Black), Single of the Year ("Rehab") and New Artist. However, she lost Album of the Year honors to jazz legend Herbie Hancock. Kanye West won awards for Best Rap Album (Graduation) and Best Rap Song ("Good Life"), and also turned in performances of both "Stronger" and "Hey Mama" (a tribute to his mother, who died a few months ago from surgical complications).
