Women's golf takes third at Qdoba Invitational

The Virginia women's golf team finished third as a team and placed four players in the top 15 at the 12-team Qdoba Invitational in Miami Lakes, Fla. last weekend.

The Cavaliers, who ended their fall season ranked 23rd by Golfweek, finished the first round with a 19-over par 307, but improved as the weekend progressed, hitting a 10-over par 298 in both the second and third rounds.

Virginia was led by freshman Joy Kim, who shot a 6-over 222 on the weekend, and sophomore Whitney Neuhauser, who placed seventh in the tournament with an 8-over par 224.

Two other Virginia golfers, juniors Jennie Arseneault and Lene Krog, placed in the top 15: Arseneault placed ninth and Krog placed 15th. The Cavaliers placed more players in the top 15 than any team in the tournament except champion East Carolina.

Kim is one of three freshmen on the Cavaliers' young eight-woman roster, which features only one senior. Krog entered the spring season ranked 23rd in Golfweek's individual ranking.

The next match for the team will be the LSU/Cleveland Classic Invitational in Baton Rouge, La. March 14 to 16.
