After the Virginia women's tennis team won two of the first three points against Ohio State, the Cavaliers lost the next three to the Buckeyes, falling 4-3.
After Ohio State freshman Paloma Escobedo and senior Caitlin O'Keefe defeated Virginia's tandem of sophomore Jennifer Stevens and junior Hampton Williams to start the match, the Cavaliers (1-3) recovered to take the next two doubles matches to win the doubles point.
In singles, the two teams went back and forth initially, as O'Keefe and Virginia junior Amanda Rales both won their matches in straight sets, giving the Cavaliers a 2-1 advantage. Virginia juniors Lara Alexander and Maggie Yahner and senior Lindsey Pereira, however, lost their singles matches in succession to put the match out of reach.
Stevens won her singles match in dramatic comeback fashion 6-7 (6), 7-5, 7-6 (6) in the final match of the day, but it was too little, too late for Virginia.
The Cavaliers next take the court Sunday, when they open conference play against Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.
