Women's tennis falls to Tribe

The No. 48 Virginia women's tennis team fell to No. 15 William & Mary 7-0 at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar's Head Sports Club Wednesday night. The loss was the second of the season for the Cavaliers and dropped them to 1-2 overall. The Tribe improved its record to 3-1 on the year.

The Cavaliers were swept in all three doubles matchups before losing all six singles positions in straight sets. The Tribe started strong when senior Megan Moulton-Levy and junior Katarina Zoricic defeated Cavalier duo junior Maggie Yahner and senior Lindsey Pereira 8-2 at No. 1. Sophomore Ragini Acharya and junior Klaudyna Kasztelaniec followed with an 8-4 defeat of Virginia junior Amanda Rales and sophomore Jennifer Stevens at No. 2. William & Mary sophomore doubles pair Carmen Pop and Lauren Sabacinski completed the sweep by topping juniors Hampton Williams and Lara Alexander 8-3.

William & Mary did not let up when it continued its dominance in singles. At the top three spots, Yahner, Stevens and Rales all lost to nationally ranked opponents -- No. 55 Acharya, No. 83 Zoricic and No. 12 Moulton Levy respectively -- all of whom disposed of their opponents in rather quick fashion. Kasztelaniec topped Pereira, Sabasinski defeated Alexander and Pop bested Williams in the bottom three singles slots to complete the sweep for the Tribe and end a disappointing night for the Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers will conclude their four-match season-opening homestand by hosting No. 50 Ohio State Friday.
