Hope springs eternal?

While what happened to the Virginia football team the last two months might not be as bad as how Ralphie Parker describes the senseless devouring of his Christmas turkey by the Bumpus' dogs in "A Christmas Story," it's safe to say things were looking up for Virginia in early January.

Sure it started on a sour note -- the Alex Trlica field goal that gave Texas Tech the Gator Bowl victory. The kick went through the uprights and into our stomachs. We all hurt for days after that loss.

But the future looked so bright. We would have another year of the Sewell
