First Year Players presents Damn Yankees
How far would you go for your favorite sports team? Would you make a pact with the devil? A 1950s adaptation of the Faust legend, Damn Yankees tells the story of Joe Boyd, a baseball fanatic who sells his soul to the devil to help his favorite team beat the New York Yankees and win the pennant. As the devil throws obstacles in his way (including a seductive temptress named Lola), Joe must decide which is more important to him -- being a young, powerful baseball star, or being with his true love. First Year Players present this classic musical today through Sunday at 8 p.m. in the Student Activities Building.

Springsteen goes political
Rock legend Bruce Springsteen announced Wednesday that he is backing Barack Obama for the presidential nomination. Springsteen posted the endorsement on his Web site, saying, "Over here on E Street, we are proud to support Obama for President." When interviewed by USA Today in February, Springsteen refused to choose sides between Hillary Clinton and Obama, but he has since been swayed by Obama's inspiring optimism. Springsteen also endorsed John Kerry in 2004.

Coldplay release Viva la Vida details
Hyper-popular alt-rockers Coldplay have recently released information surrounding the release of their highly anticipated fourth album -- the full title of which is Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (that mouthful was apparently inspired by Frida Kahlo). According to Chris Martin, the band's latest has been highly influenced by the "sights, sounds and flavors of Latin America and Spain."He also said there is experimentation and exploration, but the music is "real and honest". Hmm. The album, produced by legendary electriconica musician Brian Eno, is due out June 17 via Capitol.
