Pitchfork.tv launches for the public
Pitchfork Media -- a popular site for online reviews of independent, hip-hop and electronic music -- debuted its new satellite web site, Pitchfork.tv, April 7. The goal of this new site is to provide high-quality video content for indie bands, who don't normally get the same high quality media coverage as their major-label brethren. The web site, which is notable for its exceptionally high-quality video streams, allows users to view any of the hosted videos -- which includes pre-recorded concerts, music videos and mini-documentaries -- on-demand, at any time, and completely free of charge. The site also allows for embedding in blogs.

OK Go playing at Springfest
If you havenot yet had the pleasure of seeing OK Go's Grammy-winning "Here it Goes Again" music video, immediately walk to the closest computer and type "treadmill, OK Go" into YouTube. (In the video, we see a highly choreographed continuous take of the four band members dancing on eight treadmills.) The L.A.-based band is currently touring the East Coast and will stop in Charlottesville for a performance at U.Va's Springfest Saturday. The band, made up of Damian Kulash, Tim Nordwind, Andy Ross and Dan Konopka, most recently released a 5-song EP titled Live from SoHo and are working on a new album.

Newcomb sees premiere of student film
Last night, Newcomb Hall was packed with students and Charlottesville residents eager to see the world premiere of the student film, The Receipt. The film involved the collaborative efforts of the Filmmakers Society, RiverBend Films, the drama department and the media studies department. Directed by fourth-year religious studies major Kevin Bender, it is the longest student-produced film to be presented at the University, clocking in at 100 minutes. Starring three drama department students, The Receipt follows the stories of two college seniors and how their lives are forever affected by one moment.
