Competitive parameters

I am puzzled by Amelia Meyer’s assertion (“Tilting the playing field,” Sept. 17) that wealthy families should not hire people to help them through the “difficult and painful process” of applying to college.
Does Meyer also think that large companies should not hire consultants to help them compete with smaller firms, or that successful football teams should not hire expert coaches to ensure more wins?
It would be “fair” if everyone had the same amount of resources, but that is not the world we live in. Everyone should be free to compete within the competition’s established rules.
