The Cavaliers steamrolled Clemson 7-1 in South Carolina yesterday afternoon, thanks to the Cavaliers’ ability to capitalize on opportunities.
“We finished really well,” senior goalie Celeste Miles said. “The chances that we did have, we took advantage of them. That definitely makes the game a lot easier.”
While Clemson scored only one goal in nine shots, Virginia managed 7 goals from just 13 shots. Sophomore forward Sinead Farrelly applied enough pressure to score three unassisted goals and post the 10th hat trick in school history and the Cavaliers’ second of the season. Also in on the action were freshman forwards Maggie Kistner and Lauren Alwine, sophomore midfielder Lindsey Miller and sophomore forward Meghan Lenczyk, who continues to lead the ACC in scoring with 10 goals on the season.
After a 6-0 shutout against N.C. State last Thursday, and a 7-1 victory today, the Cavaliers look to take on the Hokies in Blacksburg Thursday.
“As a team we are starting to get better, we understand each other a little bit better, we are linking up a little better in certain situations on the offensive side, and that’s made the biggest difference for us at least in the past week,” Virginia coach Steve Swanson said.
