McCain

BY NOW we are all completely sick of this election. Between the 24 hour nonstop news cycle, the incessant television and radio ads, and yes, even the opinion columns, most of us have heard so much about John McCain and Barack Obama that our heads are ready to explode. But on the eve of the election, we each understand as tiresome as it has become, this election is anything but trivial. The issues at stake are real and the questions before us will not answer themselves. Deep down, Americans understand our duty to play our part in the direction this great country will take over the next four, and potentially eight years.

Few Americans know their duty and have lived it more intimately than John McCain. From the naval aviator who sacrificed his body for his country to the statesman who time and time again risked his career crossing partisan divides to do the right thing, even when it was deeply unpopular, the man is firmly committed to his principles and uniquely qualified to implement them. In these trying times, when we face so many challenges at home and abroad, we need a leader with a steady hand and a steadfast vision, and no one better embodies those qualities than John McCain.

The number one issue on the minds of the majority of Americans when they step into the voting booth is the economy. Despite what you might hear through the mainstream media, John McCain does have a solid plan for restoring the economy. John McCain understands the importance of low taxes, and acknowledges that Americans, not the government, know best how to spend the money they earn. He understands that low taxes help working families and small businesses, thus creating new jobs and getting the economy back on track. On the other hand, Barack Obama wants to “spread the wealth around,” an end only achieved by higher taxes and bigger government.

With the ongoing calamity on Wall Street dominating the headlines, it’s been easy to forget the wider world. The real threats around us, however, have not gone away. In the dangerous world we live in, the United States needs a leader who will not require on-the-job training. John McCain understands the seriousness of threats from Iran and North Korea and realizes the implications of unconditional talks with their leaders in the eyes of the rest of the world. Just as importantly, he will ensure that the troops in Iraq will be brought home in honor. We have in our possession a powerful military, but it must be tended carefully and directed with precision, and John McCain will be ready on day one to serve as its commander-in-chief.

Another pressing issue for many Americans is healthcare. Despite Barack Obama’s harsh attacks, which have failed every fact check from CBS to the Washington Post, John McCain has a real plan for reforming the healthcare system. John McCain will provide a tax credit to American families, giving them more money and more choice in their health insurance needs. He will expand on and improve the employer-based system allowing Americans of all tax brackets to receive the same coverage as members of Congress. John McCain is the only candidate whose healthcare plan gives Americans clear choices, while protecting them from the tax burdens that a state-run healthcare system would bring.

Regardless of what the pundits say, this election is not over until the people have their say. When you step into that voting booth tomorrow, you have a chance to make history. There is only one candidate in this race who can move America forward while protecting hard working Americans from both a dangerous world and the excesses of their own government. The choice is clear. I urge you to join me in supporting John McCain and Sarah Palin.
