ISC selects next executive board

McLaughlin selected as new president; board seeks more unified organization

The Inter-Sorority Council elected its new executive board Monday night. The new officers hope to continue efforts to develop a more unified organization and to build off the progress made since last year.

Third-year Commerce student Kelly McLaughlin will succeed fourth-year College student Stuart Berkeley as ISC president. The other newly elected members of the executive board include third-year College student Chelsey Iaquinto as vice president of recruitment, third-year College student Brie Nelson as vice president of judiciary, third-year College student Katie Andrew as vice president of administration and third-year College student Kelly Camp as vice president of finance.

All of the newly elected officials have been involved in the ISC in the past year as either a board member or representative, Berkeley said.
McLaughlin said she hopes to improve unity among the sorority chapters during her term through broad programs such as inter-sorority service projects.

“We can make such a difference when we pool resources,” McLaughlin said. “And it allows us to bond as well.”

She noted that she looks forward to working with the other new officers.

Berkeley expressed satisfaction with the election results.

“I think we got a great group of girls who will be a strong team in the coming year,” Berkeley said. She added that she is confident in the new executive board’s commitment to expansion and change, especially in regards to the judiciary board, which was established last semester. Nelson explained that the judiciary board will expand next semester to include mediation in addition to the currently offered formal judiciary hearings. She said she believes this change will increase the teamwork and unity among ISC members.

Andrew noted another change within the council that may offer potential benefits within the Greek community: The role of the vice president of administration has recently changed to include the duty of presiding over representative meetings, at which the vice president will serve as the liaison between the executive board and the 15 ISC sorority representatives. Andrew said she hopes to use this role to help “create unity in the Greek community” specifically through the ISC’s involvement in philanthropic activities.

Iaquinto also outlined her plans for her new position and said she hopes to “start reaching out to minorities and diversify the sorority community.”

Michael Citro, assistant dean of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, noted his confidence in the new executive board.

“The former officers have done an incredible job at leading our sorority community,” Citro said. “I feel that these new officers are positioned to continue to build off of the strong foundation made by those officers before them.”

The new board will transition into office in mid-February after the ISC completes recruitment and the remainder of its chair selections, which will take place in early February.
