Members of The Cavalier Daily gathered Saturday to elect the newspaper’s 120th managing and junior boards.
Former Operations Manager Andrew Baker, a third-year College student, was elected as the paper’s new editor-in-chief.
“I’m very excited to work with the new staff,” Baker said. “Everybody seemed to have good ideas at elections,” he added, noting that he is looking forward to helping the new staff achieve their goals.
One of Baker’s main goals for the 120th term is exploring the use of innovative technologies within the online production of the paper.
“By this time next year, I want The Cavalier Daily to be completely revolutionized as far as producing new media content,” Baker said.
He noted that he also hopes to improve the paper’s relationship with its readership during the next year and to work on implementing readers’ interests into the paper.
Also elected to the paper’s Managing Board was new executive editor Annette Robertson, a third-year College student who previously served as an Opinion associate editor. Former News Editor Thomas Madrecki, also a third-year College student, was elected as the new managing editor.
Third-year College student Hunter Tammaro was elected to serve as operations manager, after working as an associate Life editor, and second-year College student Connie Huang rounds out the paper’s 120th managing board as the new chief financial officer.
The Cavalier Daily’s 120th Junior Board will include second-year College student Irene Kan and third-year College student Stephanie Kassab, both former associate copy editors, as the new assistant managing editors.
Former advertising staff member Tyler Jenkins, a third-year Architecture student, will serve as the new advertising manager.
Third-year College student Laura Hoffman and second-year College student Samantha Koon, both former associate News editors, were elected as the editors of their section.
Also joining the Junior Board are second-year College student Ross Lawrence, a former Opinion associate editor, and first-year College student Mitch Ross, a former Opinion columnist, who will both serve as Opinion editors during the new term.
Former Associate Copy Editor Keely Latcham, a third-year College student, and former Associate Life Editor Stephanie Waties, a second-year College student, were chosen as the new Life editors.
Serving as the new Sports editors will be third-year College student Dan Stalcup and first-year College student Cayce Troxel, both of whom are former associate Sports editors.
Leading the Production staff for the next year will be newly-elected Production Editors Alyssa Juan, Kelsey Price and Jason Ally, all of whom are first-year College students and former Production staff designers.
Third-year College student Stephanie Garcia was re-elected as a tableau editor. Working alongside Garcia will be second-year College student Campbell Bird, a former tableau staff writer.
Re-elected Lauren Caldwell and Thomas Lynch, who are both third-year College students, will head the Graphics department.
Second-year Engineering student Bennett Sorbo, the former senior associate Photography editor was elected as one of the new Photography editors. The other Photography editor position will be split between former staff photographers Nadia Minai, a fourth-year College student, and Iram Shaikh, a second-year College student. Minai will edit this semester, and Shaikh will take over after Minai graduates in May.
Anna Mahone, a second-year College student and former Health and Sexuality staff writer, was elected as the new Health and Sexuality editor, while Prateek Vasireddy, a first-year College student and former News staff writer, was elected as the new Focus editor.
Nation and World will be led during the next year by the re-elected Selina Cormier, a third-year College student, and the newly elected David Rann, a second-year College student and former Nation and World staffer.
Finally, second-year College student Blair Capps was elected to the position of Gameday editor.
Fourth-year College student Elizabeth Mills, editor-in-chief for the 119th Managing Board, said she is excited about the incoming staff.
“I am thrilled at the experience and talent The Cavalier Daily has in its 120th staff,” Mills said. “I know they have some exciting days ahead of them, and I am confident in their ability to face the challenges they will see in the next year.”
