Continual coverage

Monday’s column by Tim Thornton (“Credible coverage,” 4/6/2009) stated that he was not convinced there was any reason the Virginia Pep Band should have been covered by The Cavalier Daily in the past three years. I think saying “there just wasn’t much happening” is quite an insult to the cause of student leadership when the administration was deliberately ignoring the will of the students and Olympic sports athletes as demonstrated by the 2004 Student Council resolution and continued incomplete musical support of all Olympic sports games. Is that not a big story? Just a year ago, the Pep Band celebrated its five year anniversary of being removed as the University’s official band by a performance in the amphitheater. This was covered by NBC29, but was not mentioned in The Cavalier Daily. The Cavalier Daily should have been periodically updating the students on the Pep Band’s status and why the administration has not taken steps to let the Pep Band play. The coverage is appreciated, and I hope The Cavalier Daily continues to follow the story.
