Athlete of the Week: Sinead Farrelly

Basic Information:\nYear: Junior\nSport: Soccer\nPosition: Midfielder\nStats:\nNamed to pre-season Herman Trophy watch list in 2009. 59 games played;\n14 goals, 12 assists.

How did you get into soccer?\nMy dad was big into sports, so he played Gaelic football in Ireland. Me and my younger brother and younger sister, we all started when we were like five - first rec league and then club.

When did you know that you might play soccer at the Division One level?\nI was really big into softball and soccer and when I was like 14 , I chose soccer so that's when I really knew that I wanted to play this. I guess high school is when I thought abouty playing in college. I didn't even know anything about college soccer or anything, but when recruiting started I learned more about it.

How do you prepare to be a\nDivision 1 athlete?\nFor club in high school, it was more, you didn't want to do something, I'd rather go out with my friends, but you think about, 'Oh, I need to do this because it's only going to help me.' I wouldn't say, 'I have to put any extra sessions.' Closer to college, when I knew I was coming here, I wanted to train harder.

How did you decide you wanted to come to Virginia?\nI was actually almost going to BC ... I came [to Virginia] on some random Wednesday, before one of my tournaments. And when I came I knew I wanted to come here.

What is your favorite part about the University?\nI want to say the campus. I don't know, I like everything. It's such a good academic school, I love the people here. But when I first came here, I became in love with the campus. I'm such a scenic person. The Lawn and everything was so pretty. And it was just good weather, the season was changing but it wasn't too cold. So, everything.

What is your least favorite part about the University?\nSchool, just because I hate school and I hate doing work. I'm not saying it's too hard, but I'd rather not go to school and just play soccer.

What are you studying?\nI'm majoring in sociology.

Other than women's soccer, what is your favorite sport to follow at Virginia?\nThe only sport I go to is men's soccer, so that's soccer too. We can't ever go to football because of our season, but I'll watch them on TV. Men's lacrosse is interesting because of the crowd they get, but mostly men's soccer because I'm friends with all the guys on the team.
