Collins leads Cavs

Four Virginia football players were named to the All-ACC team, which was announced Monday.

Senior defensive end Nate Collins led the group, earning first-team honors. Collins totaled a team-high six sacks on the season, good enough for fifth in the ACC. He was named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week following Virginia's 20-9 victory against Maryland Oct. 17, in which he ran back an interception return for a touchdown to secure the win and recorded a sack and nine tackles. Collins again earned the award the following week against Georgia Tech, against which he tallied a career-high 16 tackles as nosetackle. He finished the season second on the team with 77 tackles.

Junior cornerback Ras-I Dowling was named to the second-team for the second consecutive year. He totaled three interceptions and was named ACC Defensive Back of the Week after he recorded a career-high nine tackles and added a sack against Indiana.

Redshirt Freshman linebacker Steve Greer and sophomore placekicker Robert Randolph received honorable mention honors.

Greer compiled a team-high 92 tackles, the most since Virginia freshman Darryl Blackstock's 108 tackles in 2002. Greer's total also ranked fifth in the nation among freshmen.

Randolph connected on 17 of 19 field goal attempts and was named a semi-finalist for the Lou Groza Placekicker Award.
