Planned deception?

I am writing in response to Margaret Lipman's March 29 guest column ("Interpreting Abortion"). Lipman opens her article with a tirade saying that Del. Bob Marshall uses "children with disabilities as a pawn" to scare women. I agree that Marshall's comments were offensive, and that he has no right to impose judgment on those who have abortions; however, Lipman's intention is to bring light to his statement, so that people will view Marshall as a candidate who views the disabled as a problem to society. But I ask you: Who really upholds the dignity of the disabled: abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood who provide abortions for women who do not want their potentially disabled child, or pro-life activists, such as Marshall, who believe in the dignity of all, unborn, disabled, unwanted, or unexpected?

I also take great offense at her comment that, "In a democratic nation, religious beliefs, whether held by a majority or a minority of the population should not deny any individual the right to make choices about his or her own body." The greatest issue at stake is not the choice of an individual, but rather the nation which allows for the murder of its subsequent generations. As a nation, morality must be essential to politics regarding matters of life.

Lipman states that abortion is only three percent of the services that Planned Parenthood provides. However, this language is also quite hidden. Planned Parenthood fails to recognize Plan B and other contraceptives - which shed the uterine lining in order to prevent implantation of the fertilized embryo - as abortions, because Planned Parenthood defines the beginning of pregnancy as implantation into the uterus rather than fertilization. If fertilization were recognized by Planned Parenthood as a part of pregnancy, it would be interesting to see how the statistics would be affected.\nPlanned Parenthood is a business and more interested in funding than the welfare of those it adversely affects: Women who regret their abortions and the children lost in those abortions. Abby Johnson, the former director of a Planed Parenthood clinic, told Fox News that Planned Parenthood pushed her into promoting more abortions to gain more money for the clinic during economic duress.

This column was written to promote Planned Parenthood's political agenda to remove a pro-life candidate from office, who threatened to cease state funding for Planned Parenthood at the end of his statement. I will extend my right to vote and continue to vote for pro-life candidates, who protect the moral conscience of those opposed to abortions, by ceasing state-funding for organizations such as Planned Parenthood which hide behind a mask of freedom, yet engage in services which deny the dignity of all human life.\n\nKatherine Taylor\nCLAS II
