In yesterday's edition of The Cavalier Daily, the managing board set out to explain broadly what it is we do and what we aim to be. And although this vision for our role in the University community remains relatively unchanged from year to year, what we plan to do this semester - remodeling the print layout and launching a new web edition to name a few - will hopefully improve the overall quality of the product we put out on newsstands and online each day.
Redesigning The Cavalier Daily's website has been a top priority during the summer. The latest edition of www.cavalierdaily.com will do more than simply sport a new look; we hope to improve the online experience of our readers both by making navigation easier and continuing to explore new ways to increase interaction. Because our website is a particularly good way to communicate with people off-Grounds who remain interested in the University's happenings, we explored ways to bring more alumni and parents of students into the fold. One way we intend to serve these readers better is through an e-mail subscription service to go along with the new site. We expect to launch this web edition in the coming days.
Our print edition has undergone a face lift as well, and readers can expect some minor adjustments throughout the paper: a slightly different masthead, font changes and a few new page layouts. This kind of redesign typically occurs every five years or so, with the goal of freshening up our look and presenting information in more easily digestible ways.
One of our more ambitious projects will be introducing a Weekend Edition, which will essentially replace Friday's traditional paper. In addition to tweaking distribution for this issue to reach more students when they are off-Grounds during the weekend, there will also be a few other changes in store
