What else do you like to do? Hobbies?\nI enjoy mountain biking, camping, working out, playing video games, driving, and I'm starting to teach myself to DJ/produce.
What's a typical weekend like for you? Do you party? Drink? Smoke?\nOn the weekend, I like to go out and hang out with my friends. I do drink and I'll smoke if I have a reason to but I've never bought a pack of cigarettes.
Do you work out or play sports? How important is physical fitness in your life?\nI'm pretty fit and a lot of the things I enjoy in life wouldn't be very fun if you were out of shape, so I'd say it's pretty important to me.
What are your favorite TV shows?\nCurrently the only show I'm excited about is "Eastbound & Down," but back in high school, I used to watch a lot of TV.
What music do you listen to?\nMostly electronica and jam bands: Pretty Lights, Phish, Disco Biscuits, Daft Punk and Kid Cudi are some of my favorites.
Favorite books/authors?\nI love science fiction and fantasy. My favorite author is probably Isaac Asimov.
What is your favorite restaurant in Charlottesville?\nMy favorite C-ville restaurant is Lemongrass, though.
Sell yourself. What makes you a good catch?\nYou'll never meet someone like me again in your life.
What are the deal breakers? (smoker, age difference, etc.?)\nSomeone who's really ditzy. If you raise your voice at the end of a sentence like it's a question, I probably don't ever want to see you again. If you don't like to go out or are really straight-edge, I can't imagine you having a very good time with me either.
If there's one thing you could change about yourself, what would it be? Why?\nI wish I was more outgoing.
What do you want to do when you graduate?\nI want to either live in Manhattan or in California and work in the financial industry doing IT-related things.
What's your favorite part about U.Va.? Least favorite?\nMy favorite part about U.Va. is how there's so much to do. I dislike how there's so little time to do everything; four years go by quickly.
How would your best friend describe you?\nA recent quote taken out of context from one my friends fits well here: "You're just a bro trying to make it in the world."
If you could time travel to any period, when would it be and why?\nThe future, hopefully then all my nerdy fantasies would be real.
Describe yourself in one sentence.\nI'm a laid-back guy looking to get the most out of life.

Describe your ideal date (location). Outdoors, indoors, dinner, concert?\nDinner downtown! Followed by Splendora's.
If you could date any celebrity, who would it be and why? \nRyan Reynolds. Because he's smokin'. But honestly, I don't think I'd want to be with someone who was famous. I prefer to be pretty low-key.
What's a typical weekend like for you? Do you party? Drink? Smoke? \nYes, yes, yes. I'll usually go out with my friends one or two nights a week. What music do you listen to? \nLately I've been digging stuff that's like hip-hop and electronic mashed up (like "Memories" by Kid Cudi and David Guetta), but I listen to a lot of other stuff, too. Lots of reggae, not so much country.
What are your favorite foods? Favorite restaurant in Charlottesville? \nI love international foods. I'm going to have to say Milan is my favorite restaurant here, followed by Basil probably.
Sell yourself. What makes you a good catch?\nI'm from Hawaii. I like to think I'm pretty funny. I like to go on adventures. The first word most of my friends on the mainland use to describe me is "chill." I enjoy making new friends. I give excellent massages. I rarely get mad.
What would your theme song be? Why? \nI'm not sure about right now, but this summer, it was probably "Coastin'" by Zion I and K. Flay because I feel like it's a tribute to everything I loved about the summer. Like enjoying yourself and being carefree while you can.
What are the deal breakers? (smoker, age difference, etc.?)\nIntolerance, unprompted rudeness/cruelty, animal haters, people who take themselves too seriously.
If there's one thing you could change about yourself, what would it be? Why? \nI wish I were able to fully live in the moment all the time and to keep perspective in all situations. I'm working on it.
What do you want to do when you graduate? \nProbably grad school eventually, but for a while I'd love to just travel around the U.S. and the world, living in different places and becoming a part of a bunch of small communities.
How would your best friend describe you? \nFunny, dependable, caring
How would your biggest enemy describe you? \nQuick to judge, self-absorbed
If you could time travel to any period, when would it be and why? \nI bet everyone says the 60s, but I really would've loved to have been at Woodstock or something, just getting crazy.
Describe yourself in one sentence.\nI'm 19 years old and I do whatever I want.
Laurance: So I kind of filled the survey out as a joke. One of my friends said I should do it because you weren't actually going to pick me; I just wanted a free dinner. I kind of just went into it like that. I thought I might have met her before but it can't be that bad. At least I get the dinner. It was kind of a spur-of-the-moment thing. It would be kind of funny if someone we knew did it so I was like, "Hey, all right. Why not?"
Sachi: When he texted me, he said he heard we have some friends in common, so I was wondering if I had already met him. But when he came up, I didn't recognize him, so it was cool to meet someone new. I didn't want to tell my friends because I knew that they would look him up and they would tell me what he was like, and I wanted to surprise myself so I didn't tell them his name until after I left and said if there are pictures of him with bodies in his house, then come and get me.
Laurance: I went to Lambeth to pick her up. I just texted her and was like, "I got to the parking lot; Where are you?" She said she was wearing a purple shirt in the back. I guess I didn't really have a first impression. Obviously she was pretty cute. I wasn't upset. It was a good start. I was terrified that it was going to be the most awkward person ever and an overall bad experience. I just wanted to look back on it as a fun thing to do. But she seemed nice enough in the first few minutes I met her.
Sachi: He's a good-looking guy. Not really like my usual type or anything, but it wasn't like he pulled up and I was like, "Oh s---." It was OK. We drove downtown and went to Himalayan Fusion. Honestly, the food was mediocre. I did like it last time when we went for my friend's birthday, so I suggested the restaurant. I guess he had gone there for his girlfriend's prom in high school because he went to a boarding school outside of Charlottesville and he said the service was slow and they messed up his order. We ended up wanting to try it anyway because we both like Indian food. It wasn't bad but it wasn't as good as I remembered.
Laurance: The service was slow but that's kind of what I remember it being like. But it wasn't a bad thing ... It gave us the chance to get to know one another. It was short enough that I stayed interested the whole time but it was long enough to get to know who she was. I guess that's a cheesy way to put it, but that's what happened. I got a chicken dish, and she got an eggplant dish, something vegetarian, although I don't believe she's vegetarian.
Sachi: We discussed why we might have gotten paired together and who we knew, the people we had in common. The conversation was good. There weren't any awkward pauses or anything. We always had something to talk about, which was good. I had been worried about ... you know, a blind date, you don't know how it's going to go. We talked a lot about music and the various shows he has been to in Charlottesville. We liked a lot of the same stuff - music-wise, mostly. We both have pretty varied tastes but we had a couple in common we could talk about for a while.
Laurance: I really didn't think we would have anything in common at all, but we ended up having a decent amount in common. We had a pretty good conversation. Obviously we were both on the ski team. She snowboards, and I ski, but that's not too big of a deal. We talked about where we had gone skiing, where we wanted to go. We talked about general things about the ski team. We talked about music and what other hobbies we had, what we were doing for Fall Break. It was a pretty by-the-book conversation. There was nothing that was like, "Oh wow, I didn't see that coming."
Sachi: He lived in Lambeth last year, so we talked about his experience versus mine. He lived in an unrenovated one, which sucks for him. We weren't super, super clicking. I don't want to sound negative in any way. It wasn't like a revelation or anything. It was just like, "Oh yeah, we get along." More of a friend thing, which is what I pretty much expected, you know. It's pretty rare that someone will go on a blind date and think, "This is the love of my life." I think we'll be friends if we see each other around.
Laurance: I would say that it was about as perfect as a friendly date could get. I didn't feel like it was the most romantic date possible; we just had dinner, so I guess it's not a very good setup for a romantic date. I actually had to be somewhere pretty soon after that. I don't think we got back until 9:30 or so, and I was already late to meet someone. I dropped her off and then went to do the things I needed to do for the night. If I had to guess from her perspective what the worst part of the date was, I would say that because I definitely rushed off at the end because I was late, but I don't think it bothered her significantly.
Sachi: I would give it a 7. I would say a 10 would be if it were someone I wanted to get with or something. It was good. We're Facebook friends. Other than that we haven't talked or anything. But I figure we know so many of the same people that it's only a matter of time until I see him around.
Laurance: It wasn't exactly a very romantic date, so in that sense, it would be low. But as far as meeting a new person that I could be friends with, I would give it an 8.5. I feel like there is a 100 percent chance I'll see her again within the month.
So far, Sachi and Laurance's paths have yet to cross, but they still think it is only a matter of time.
