The No. 8 Virginia women's soccer team tied No. 10 Florida State 0-0 last night in Tallahassee, Fla.
The first half was largely forgettable, with both teams playing in a defensive formation and not gambling on many chances, leading to an overall lackluster performance.
Action then picked up during the second half as both teams created several scoring opportunities. Neither team found the back of the net, however, and the game went into overtime tied 0-0, with shots on goal also tied at seven apiece.
During the first overtime period, the Cavaliers and Seminoles continued the frenzied play of the second half but still could not score a golden goal. During the second 10-minute period, Virginia dodged several bullets, including a would-be goal by sophomore forward Breezy Hupp that was called back by an off-sides call, and held on for a draw.
The game marked junior goalkeeper Chantel Jones' 31st shutout, tying the program record. Junior forward Lauren Alwine did not play because of an injury to her midsection.
The Cavaliers will play Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. Sunday at 1 p.m.
