Suspect attempts daytime burglary

A male individual reported an attempted robbery that occurred at 1 p.m. yesterday near the Women's Center and the Old Medical School, according to the University Police department.\nThe suspect reportedly sprayed the victim in the eyes with an aerosol can before attempting to steal the victim's bag, the press release stated. The victim, who did not sustain any injuries, was able to fight off the suspect and before the suspect fled the scene on foot.

The victim described the suspect as a black male about 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall and around 190 to 200 pounds. At the time of the incident, the suspect wore black shoes, black jeans, a black jacket that included a fur-lined hood, a black-knit hat and a surgical mask that covered his face.

University police ask anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the University Police at 434-924-7166 or Crimestoppers at 434-977-4000.
