Numerous places near Grounds offer student discounts

Because of the struggling economy, students are working to make the most of their limited budgets while attending the University. Since the typical student spends most of his or her money on food, either in restaurants or in local grocery store chains in the area, it is essential the food purchases he or she makes come complete with offers that make the college experience a little easier on their wallets.

Hibachi Grill Supreme Buffet, sometimes referred to as simply "The Hibachi Grill," located on US-29 Seminole Trail, offers students the kind of food discounts any hungry college kid would want.\n"All University students can get a 10 percent discount on their meal without a coupon and a 15 percent discount on their meal with a coupon." said Kevin Yang, manager of The Hibachi Grill. With lunch buffets regularly priced at $6.99 and dinner buffets at $9.99, The Hibachi Grill offers students an eclectic menu with strong Chinese, Japanese and American influences. The selection at The Hibachi Grill is difficult to match, Yang said.

"We offer 25 different types of sushi and 250 different items on the bar," he said. "Students can choose anything among these options, and a Hibachi Chef will cook it for them."

Status as a University student can secure discounts at many other restaurants around Charlottesville. Through its Student Membership Program, the University Alumni Association offers discounts at some of the most frequented restaurants on The Corner and in the Charlottesville area.
