Squad stays perfect against N.C. State, Wake

The top-ranked Virginia men's tennis team earned a pair of weekend victories against ACC teams, topping No. 67 N.C. State, 6-1, Friday and No. 34 Wake Forest, 5-2, Sunday to remain undefeated on the year.

Against N.C. State (9-12, 1-8 ACC), the Cavaliers took two of three doubles matches and lost only at the No. 1 spot, where freshman Justin Shane replaced junior Drew Courtney, who did not play this past weekend. The Cavaliers also reshuffled their singles lineup against the Wolfpack by bringing junior Philippe Oudshoorn to No. 5, where he lost in three sets. Junior Santiago Villegas, playing No. 6, won his match in three sets, and the rest of the Cavaliers swept the Wolfpack in straight sets to secure the overall victory.

Wake Forest (10-10, 3-6 ACC) challenged the Virginia lineup at times Sunday by extending four singles matches to three sets. Sophomore Julen Uriguen and Villegas won in straight sets at No. 5 and No. 6, but senior Sanam Singh and Shane were outlasted at No. 3 and No. 4 after winning the first sets of their respective matches. Freshman Alex Domijan, playing No. 1, dropped the second set against Demon Deacons senior Jonathan Wolff but secured the final set, 6-4, to clinch the overall win for Virginia.

The Cavaliers (24-0, 9-0 ACC) return home this weekend to conclude their regular season against No. 58 Clemson and No. 18 Georgia Tech.
