Carleigh Nesbit makes waves in country music world

Last week, I had the privilege of catching third-year College student Carleigh Nesbit's show at The Southern. The premed Charlottesville native displays a sincere quality when strumming her guitar, singing twanging melodies about everything from tornados to Charleston. Carleigh started playing guitar when she was 9 years old at the suggestion of her parents.

"It was just one of those things, like fencing, like maybe you'll like this," she said. As a teenager, she and two friends began playing in bars together a few times a week. Carleigh, then a high school junior, had been writing all of the music for the group and decided to record the first nine songs she had written, releasing her debut solo album Flower to the Bee.
