Cavaliers grab two triumphs

In its final non-conference tournament of the season, the Virginia volleyball team took two of its three matches this weekend at the Ohio Volleyball Tournament held in Athens, Ohio. The Cavaliers (6-3) defeated Marshall and Ohio 3-0 and 3-1, respectively, to open and close their stay at the event and dropped a 3-1 decision against Louisville during the middle of the tournament.

The Virginia power trio of senior outside hitter Simone Asque, junior middle blocker Jessica O'Shoney and sophomore outside hitter Rachel Clark led the team in almost all offensive categories.

Throughout the weekend, Asque recorded 53 kills, while Clark and O'Shoney added 34 and 32 of their own, respectively. Asque also recorded her first 20-kill match of the season with 22 total kills against the Bobcats (4-5) Sunday morning.

Defensively, sophomore libero Emily Rottman and O'Shoney led the team with 47 digs and 15 blocks, respectively, throughout the tournament.

Now the Cavaliers will begin conference play as the team travels to Blacksburg to take on rival Virginia Tech Friday for the first of two season matchups between the two programs.
