NCAA rules freshman ineligible

Virginia women's basketball freshman forward Sarah Imovbioh has been deemed ineligible to practice or play for the Cavaliers for the upcoming 2011-12 campaign by the NCAA. Imovbioh violated an NCAA rule which states that an athlete must finish high school within a four-year time frame, according to a press release. The 6-foot-2 Nigeria native failed to adhere to that regulation.

Imovbioh comes to the Cavaliers from St. Anne's-Belfield High School in Charlottesville as a Parade Magazine All-American. She averaged 29 points and 22.6 rebounds per game during her senior season and appeared poised to contribute immediately in the paint for Virginia and new coach Joanne Boyle.

Imovbioh will remain enrolled at the University and likely will actively participate with the team during the 2012-13 season.
