Back to the block

Those of you who are like us sportswriters - i.e. would rather read every recent sports article than that book your professor just assigned - may have noticed an interesting item that is about to come up for auction during the next few weeks. Grammy-nominated songwriter Seth Swirsky has decided to put up for auction the famous ball from Game 6 of the 1986 World Series that he purchased from Charlie Sheen for nearly $64,000 in 2000. Although there's no word on whether or not the ball has been juiced with tiger blood, this precious piece of memorabilia - the one that Mookie Wilson hit between Bill Buckner's legs - would be the perfect addition to any New York Mets fan's collection as a permanent reminder of that magical season 25 years ago - or to really anyone who wanted to roll it past a friend's legs and scream, "It gets by Buckner! It gets by Buckner!"

While making a million dollar bid for the ball on eBay would admittedly be pretty cool, for those readers who neither possess the necessary funds to make an offer nor have any interest in New York sports, allow us here at Wahoo Auction House to welcome you back to our showroom where there are sure to be items for every Virginia fan at prices you can't turn down. Proceeds from today's auction will go toward purchasing Cavaliers' quarterback Michael Rocco a watch to ensure that the young signal caller knows just how long six seconds really is for the rest of the season.

A picture of either Calvin or Conner Rezende, signed by one of the two twins.

For opposing men's soccer teams, the only thing more difficult than stopping the two Rezende brothers is telling them apart. Luckily for you, with this picture, you don't have to. Since even we here at Wahoo Auctions aren't quite sure which brother signed our picture, the buyer of this lovely photo can feel free to tell his or her friends that the picture is of the brother whose stock is currently higher.

What's that you say - Calvin just added another assist to his total? Why, of course it's him in the picture! Oh, no - now the man he was marking just scored a goal? It's a good thing you have a picture of his twin brother who didn't let anyone past him. With this piece, you'll never be caught supporting the wrong player again. Suggested opening bid: $75

The racket Jarmere Jenkins uses when he wins the NCAA singles title this year.

Never ones to shy away from fearless prognostication, we here at the house are confident in putting this item up for bid now. Coming off his pair of titles at the UVa Ranked +1 Invitational, the junior looks poised to take his game to new heights - and considering the lofty peaks he's already climbed to, that can only mean one thing. Bad mountain climbing puns aside, Jenkins is a certified stud. As a sophomore last season, he was an All-ACC selection and was ranked as high as No. 16 in the nation before getting bumped during the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship. With another year of experience under his belt, Jenkins seems ready to take his place among the pantheon of great Virginia racquet-men. Suggested opening bid: $175 - discounted since the buyer must wait several months for shipment.

Robert Randolph's game-worn right cleat.

Fear not Virginia fans, this item was snatched long before Randolph made tribute to his mentor Yannick Reyering with a pair of misses last Saturday afternoon. No, since we here at Wahoo Auctions only give our clients the best, this piece comes straight from Indiana where Randolph booted a game winning, 23-yard field goal as time expired to carry Virginia past the Hoosiers. Randolph has already won two National Placekicker of the Week awards this season, and despite his two misses against the Vandals, still ranks No. 3 all time in the ACC in field goal percentage. Randolph's successes with his feet look to be one of the few things that Cavaliers' fans can look forward to this season. And even if you're not a fan of Randolph, wearing this item instantaneously makes any game of backyard football exponentially cooler. Suggested opening bid: $125 - but buy now because this price could skyrocket barring a Lou Groza award upset or an NFL Draft Day surprise.

The cast from Mike Scott's ankle surgery last season.

Wouldn't you love to own an integral piece of Virginia's first ACC Tournament Championship since the days of unforgettable Wally Walker? Well, dear friends, Wahoo Auctions has you covered. Delicately procured from Scott's doctor's office, this item is the very cast from Mike Scott's ankle that allowed the senior to apply for and receive a medical hardship waiver and return for one more season. During his brief appearance in the 2010-11 season, Scott dominated, averaging a double-double and leading Virginia to several key road victories against No. 15 Minnesota and Virginia Tech. Scott's return gives coach Tony Bennett a strong presence in the paint around which to run his half-court offense and gives the Cavaliers their on- and off-court leader back. Combined with another year of experience for Virginia's talented underclassmen, Scott's veteran play should help the Cavaliers bring some hardware back to Charlottesville. Just be sure to hide this one away from the missus. Suggested opening bid: $100.

Well, that's all the time we have for today's items. Thanks for checking out another edition of Wahoo Auctions, where new and rare items - like a ball from an actual Virginia passing touchdown - are coming up for auction daily, so be sure to check us out again soon.
