Zelikow to conclude term as associate dean

Halliday says search has already begun

History Prof. Philip Zelikow, the associate dean for the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, will conclude his term this semester and will not seek reappointment.

“A search for his successor has just been launched,” History Department Chair Paul Halliday said in an email. “He plans to be on research leave during the next academic year.”

Zelikow’s departure comes just months after Meredith Woo, dean of the College and Graduate Schools of Arts & Sciences, announced that she would not seek reappointment when her term ends in May.

Zelikow is a nationally renowned academic best known for his role as director of the 9/11 Commission, which evaluated the causes of the 2001 terrorist attacks and synthesized numerous proposals to help avoid subsequent attacks. Zelikow is also a former director of the Miller Center.
